The annual cycle of the Foundation’s activities starts this month with the distribution of Application Forms to schools, the Library, and the Bay Post. In addition to Batemans Bay High, Carroll College, and Moruya High, we have now added St Peter’s Anglican College to our list of high schools.

The Application Form has been enhanced to enable those seeking apprenticeships to apply to the Foundation for financial assistance. Before, such assistance was dealt with ad hoc by correspondence; now, there is a formalised approach.

We were extremely pleased with the results of the first semester, handed in by our 2008 students. Just look at these results!

Eloise Weston – 2 Distinctions, 2 Credits: Natasha Adam – 1 High Distinction, 3 Distinctions: Christina Lewis – 2 Distinctions, 2 Credits: Renee Robbins – 1 High Distinction, 1 Distinction, 2 Credits: Simon Meares – average of 70% for 4 very tough engineering subjects: Simone Parkinson – 1 High Distinction, 3 Credits:
Sally Beattie – 3 Credits, 1 Pass

Remember, these are students who, without the Foundation’s assistance, may not have made it to University at all. It is a thought that makes the work of the Foundation totally relevant. Our children are our future.

Whether we can make the same number of Grants in 2009 remains to be seen. The financial scares of six months ago have not yet evaporated, although there are signs that, in Australia at least, the worst may be behind us. It has long been a policy of the Foundation to avoid giving Grants out of our modest capital, so we work hard at generating income through donations. That income, by the way, can only come from the greater Batemans Bay area, (except from some support we get from the Canberra universities). A donations form is attached, so please donate what you can. For those local companies and institutions who have pledged annual donations, we will send out invoices early November.
